Commercial case studies

Brands built from the inside out.

Alchemy’s work spans premium, mid-market, well, and emerging spirits brands. The customer, price, product, package, operations, and route to market are developed as one connected undertaking.

Cuentacuentos packaging

Premium agave spirits / Founder-led brand

Cuentacuentos

Commercial problem
Create a premium platform for rare liquids and individual makers without allowing the master brand to flatten their differences.
Connected work
Positioning, brand architecture, identity, packaging, producer relationships, compliance, import and distribution planning, and launch.
Evidence
The first pallet arrived in Colorado in 2018. The line is now sold through restaurants, bars, retailers, and private clubs in the United States and abroad.
El Barro bottle

Mezcal de la casa / Founder-led brand

El Barro

Commercial problem
Develop the best-tasting well mezcal possible at an honest price for restaurants and bars.
Connected work
Product definition, target cost, pricing, production method, capacity, identity, and packaging were developed as one system.
Evidence
The production solution combined a copper ordinario distillation with a second pass in clay and led to the installation of four clay stills in Santiago Matatlán.
Tso’ok Reposado rum bottle

Oaxacan rum / Founder-led brand

Tso’ok

Commercial problem
Bring fresh-cane rum from indigenous Mixe producers in the Sierra Mixe cloud forest to an international market without losing the product’s origin or character.
Connected work
Brand development, packaging, producer coordination, cross-border logistics, import planning, and route to market.
Evidence
Tso’ok was listed #31 on VinePair’s Top 50 Spirits of 2023.
Tzotol sotol bottle

Sotol / In development

Tzotol

Commercial premise
Develop a brand around the distinctive character of northern Mexico’s wild desert spirit without defaulting to familiar agave-category conventions.
Work in progress
Product premise, positioning, identity, packaging, and route-to-market planning.
Tipo Bueno bottle

Accessible mezcal / Founder-led brand

Tipo Bueno

Commercial premise
Create an approachable, price-conscious mezcal for cocktails, beer pairings, or drinking straight with friends.
Connected work
